John Malatak is currently the past rear commander of America’s Boating Club and is a recognized expert on boating safety.
He previously served as Chief, Program Operations for the Department of Homeland Security/United States Coast Guard, Boating Safety Division, Washington, DC. and was charged to ensure total coordination and collaboration to all organizations, states, territories, all federal agencies as well as International Agencies relating to all matters pertaining to safety, small vessel security measures, education, funding, implementation, communications and awareness programs along with all technical, educational, systematic and fiscal matters. Prior to his assignment with the U. S. Coast Guard he held various educational, technical and management positions within the American Red Cross.
Mr. Malatak’s professional boating accomplishments include Boating Safety Master Instructor; Vessel Examiner, Certified Boat Crew Member and Certified Coxswain; recipient of the USCG Auxiliary AUXOP, and Senior Navigator (SN) with Educational Proficiency for the United States Power Squadrons, He actively teaches various boating safety specialty courses such as: Weather, Piloting, Advanced Piloting, Coastal Navigation, Communications, GPS, Search and Rescue, and Patrols. He has authored over 100 articles and national publications on Instructor Development, Lifeguarding, Water Safety, Swimming, Canoeing, Sailing, various components of Power Boating, as well as First Aid and CPR.
Throughout his illustrious career, he has received dozens of prestigious national honors and awards for his outstanding work in and contributions to boating safety.
Mr. Malatak is an active member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, (Past Commander), United States Power Squadrons, (Past Rear Commander, Program Partner Relations); and the Rock Harbor and Nashville Yacht Clubs.
